Reactive Recognition

Reactive Recognition is a Beginner Friendly, 3 page, informational website designed to introduce learners of all ages to the fascinating intersection of chemistry and technology. This project explores how the chemical properties of our skin—such as oils, pH levels, and reactions with the environment—can influence the accuracy of facial recognition systems. By connecting science to real-world technology, Reactive Recognition makes complex ideas approachable, interactive, and inspiring.

About

Hello! My name is Aneefah, and I created Reactive Recognition to explore the impact of facial scars and how they’re often left out of conversations, especially in STEM. Growing up with visible tribal marks, I noticed how little representation and research there was around how facial differences are treated in technology. Through my research, I discovered how facial recognition systems often misidentify people due to scars, burns, or unique features, and that bias motivated me to bring awareness. Reactive Recognition is my way of blending personal experience with science to educate others, and spark curiosity around chemistry.
